He was the son of the late Clarence E. Stone, Sr. and Charlotte (Smith) Stone. He lived in Upton, MA for many years before moving to Fall River, MA in early 2024, and lived there until his passing.
Clarence was a graduate of Lowell Technical Institute and the University of Connecticut, Storrs. He worked for many years as a Civil Engineer/Specifications with engineering firms in Colorado, Maine, and largely in the Boston, MA area. He held a professional PE registration in several states, along with advanced degrees.
Gene enjoyed listening to sports including the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and New England Patriots. He also enjoyed travelling to Maine, New Hampshire and the Berkshires for visits with his former fraternity brothers. Gene greatly enjoyed hiking and was able to hike to the top of Mount Katahdin in Maine several years ago. His trip of a lifetime came in the early 90’s when he was able to travel to Nepal for weeks of trekking.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Ellen (Seymour) Stone who served as his caregiver for the past few years; four nieces, Rebecca Stone Mailloux, Heather, Summer and Brook Stone as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. Clarence was the brother of the late Clifton E. Stone, uncle of the late Eben Stone, and son-in-law of the late Leonora L. Seymour.
His Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM in Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren. Burial will be private.
