

Ernest Mayo, 85, of Maple Road, Warren passed away March 15, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Ernest married Fern Hope Gordon in 1947 and together they raised three children while maintaining a stable, productive and happy 65 years of marriage.
Born in Calabria, Italy, he was the son of the late Antonio and Concetta (Gaudio) Mayo.
Ernest’s guiding principle was an honest day’s work, often seven days a week, in the interest of his family. He was expert in every aspect of real estate development, appraisal, management and construction.
Mr. Mayo was also devoted to his hometown of Warren. He donated countless hours, effort and talent to oversee numerous successful projects including the remodeling of Warren Town Hall, the construction and expansion of the Hugh Cole Elementary School, in which The Ernest Mayo Pavilion Wing was named, the Kickemuit Middle School and the conversion of the Joyce Street School into the Warren Public Safety Complex. He was also Chairman of the Warren Board of Assessors.
In addition, he was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and he subsequently served in various American Legion capacities including Warren Commander and Rhode Island Vice-Commander.
He was the father of Kathleen Mayo Marino, Ernest G. Mayo and his wife Suzanne and Anthony P. Mayo and his wife Kristine; grandfather of Kathryn, Kenneth and Matthew Marino and Scott, Gregory and Sonja Mayo and brother of Mary Gordon.
