Born in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Francis H. and Anna (Gleason) Burke. John was a Veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.
After the war, John worked as an Insurance Agent and retired as a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. In his retirement he helped his son Jonathan operate East Bay Baseball Academy, which he took great pride in seeing the next generation of ball players reach their next level.
Besides his wife, John is survived by two children, Jonathan Burke and his girlfriend Tammie of Warren, and Kelly Melnychuk and her husband Andre of Cumberland; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Allison Melnychuk both of Cumberland. Many of his proudest moments were traveling with his wife to attend his grandchildren’s athletic events.
He will be put to rest with full military honors and distinction for his service in the Vietnam War at the RI Veterans Cemetery. Services will be private.
