

John S. Costa, Jr., age 85, of Warren passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center with his family by his side. He was the devoted partner of, Janet Nappi with whom he built a lifetime of cherished memories across their 40 years together. They shared a bond marked by enduring love, quiet strength and unwavering companionship.
Born in Warren, he was the son of the late John and Victoria Lena (Pagano) Costa Sr.
After graduating from Warren High School, John spent over seven years serving his country in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. Following his service, he went on to work many jobs, most notably owning the former Costa Sporting Goods. He also worked at Kaiser Aluminum and was a district manager for the former Zayres before retiring as a Fire Rescue Dispatcher for the Newport Naval Base in 2003.
John was a member of the Elks Lodge1860 in Bristol, VFW Post 237 in Bristol, the American Legion, The Warren German American Club and performed with the Warren Indian Band and the local Drum and Bugle Corps. John was also a proud inductee of the Warren Athletic Hall of Fame.
John was an avid golfer who loved his Sunday morning tee time at Swansea Country Club followed by a cold beer with his friends. He also enjoyed playing cards on Tuesday and Thursday nights. He had a love for cars and 50’s and 60’s music. He was an amazing storyteller and enjoyed reminiscing and sharing his life stories. Above all else, he cherished time with his family. He especially enjoyed golf trips to Hilton Head, attending The Masters, and visits to Saratoga with his boys to watch the horse races. Of all John’s accomplishments, nothing meant more to him than his role as Dad and Grampa. He was immensely proud of his sons, John and Kevin, and cherished watching them and his grandchildren excel in sports and reach life’s many milestones.
Along with Janet, he is survived by his sons, John Costa, III and his wife Jana of Johnston, RI and Kevin Costa and his wife Jessica of Bristol, RI; his grandchildren, Allie Costa, Cote (Kaylee) Costa, Sophie (Nolan) Ross, Andersyn (Jarrett) Costa, Jon Logan Costa and Christian Costa, his great grandson, Rhode Costa, his beloved Tonya Jean and several godchildren,nieces and nephews. He was the former husband of the late Josette Squatrito Costa and brother of the late Ann Marie Blouin and Rita C. Galinelli.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 10:00 AM from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main Street, Warren followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Bay Church, Warren. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Warren. His visitation will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's honor may be made to Warren Fire and Rescue, 34 Miller St., Warren, RI 02885.
