Maria L. (Leocadio) Mendes, age 92, of Warren, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2019 in Crestwood Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Mendes to whom she was married 48 years before his passing in 2001.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, a daughter of the late Jose and Maria E. (Faria) Leocadio, she had been a resident of Warren for over 50 years.
She worked as a Seamstress at Wellmade Dress for many years and was a Housekeeper at Grace Barker Nursing Home before her retirement in 1989. Mrs. Mendes loved music, dancing and singing. She also loved to sew and gardening.
She is survived by one daughter, Grace Brilhante and her husband Victor of Warren; brother, Edward Leocadio; one sister, Isaura Gomes; two grandchildren, Samantha and Steven Brilhante and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Silvino, Guilherme, Jose and Anterio Leocadio.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 8:00AM from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Relatives and friends invited. Visitation prior to her service from 8:00 to 9:30AM in the Funeral Home.
