He attended Walter Johnson High School and excelled in his youth, becoming an Eagle Scout and attending the Philmont Ranch Scouting program. He attended Montgomery College, the University of Maryland, and undertook postgraduate studies to obtain a B.S. and an M.S. in electrical engineering. He served his country in the United States Air Force at numerous bases, in conjunction with the Boeing Company, and in the United States Civil Service.
Throughout his life, “Bob” was a passionate model railroader, and loved classical music: he played the oboe and clarinet. He was a long-time and beloved member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, contributing deep faith, service and skills, a wry sense of humor, and a sure and reliable tenor voice, as well as material support to the church and its music program. Most recently he led efforts to add a Zimbelstern organ stop to augment the church’s Rieger organ.
Allen Robert Plitt was predeceased by his parents, Arthelia and Allen R. Plitt. He is survived by his beloved sister, Nellie Katherine Plitt, with whom he took train and cruise travels, within North America, but also to Europe and the Holy Land.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 9, 2023, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Bethesda.
