

Anne Elizabeth Strahota (84) of Chevy Chase, MD, passed away on April 8, 2026. Anne was born October 17, 1941 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Frank Aloysius Slavic and Hilda Charlotte Coons. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Duff Strahota, and her three children, Jeffrey Strahota of Rockville, MD (Mollie Grover), Hilary Strahota of Washington, DC and James Strahota of Chevy Chase, MD. She is also survived by her sisters Eleanor Bobbitt of Williamsburg, VA (Thomas Bobbitt) and Jeanne DeGrandis of Vero Beach, FL, as well as five nieces and nephews and their families. She is predeceased by her sister, Mary Slavic, and niece, Claudia Slavic.
Anne graduated from Poughkeepsie High School, received a B.A. cum laude in History from Vassar College and an M.A. with honors in Modern European History from George Washington University. After moving to Washington, DC in 1965, she worked briefly for two public relations firms before joining the Grocery Manufacturers of America (GMA) as an administrative assistant to its president. Except for the first term of the Nixon administration, when she worked for the president's consultant for civil and human rights, Indian affairs, and the arts, the remainder of Anne's professional career was spent at GMA where she became the first woman to serve as one of its vice presidents. In 1979, she retired from GMA to raise her family while continuing to serve as a consultant on several projects.
Anne met her husband, Bob, when they lived across the street from each other in Georgetown. They were married in 1970 and resided in McLean, VA and Georgetown before moving with their three children to Chevy Chase, MD in 1983.
Anne was active in the school and parish of the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington, DC. She also volunteered as an English teacher for Spanish speakers and assisted one of her Vassar College classmates as an editor of the classmate's mystery novels.
Anne was a devout Catholic, an avid reader, and local sports fan. With her family, she enjoyed visits to Disney World, yearly vacations in Maine and overseas trips to Chile, England, Italy, and Mexico. Her greatest joy was ensuring the happiness and well-being of her family, friends, and her beloved dog Bentley, all of whom will miss her dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 5949 Western Avenue, N.W., Washington DC on April 15, 2026 at 11 a.m., with visiting from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Father McKenna Center or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
