

A proud native of Washington, DC, Bernie attended George Washington University and earned his dental degree from Georgetown University School of Dentistry. He served as a captain in the United States Air Force for two years before returning to Washington to begin a long and respected career as a senior partner at Watergate Dental Associates. He retired from the practice in 2015.
Bernie had a deep love for Washington sports and was a devoted fan of the Senators, the Nationals, and the Redskins. An avid golfer and world traveler he loved nothing more than the time he spent with his family. He was also a dedicated Little League coach, spending many years sharing his love of baseball by coaching his three children and supporting their teams. Known for his wit and humor he brought warmth and laughter to those around him.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary, his sister, Sylvia, his children Michael (Gina), Jason (Megan), Katie (Igor) six grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his profession, and the community he called home.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 19, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Gawlers Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, D.C.
