Died peacefully on April 30, 2016 in Washington, DC. Born in Poland in 1929, she miraculously survived World War II in Germany passing as a Catholic worker. Liberated by the United States 7th Army in 1945, she arrived in the United States in 1947 on the USS Ernie Pyle. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens College and two Master''s degrees from Columbia University. She was a reading specialist at a New York City private school for over 25 years. Following her retirement, she moved to Washington, DC in 2000 to be near her family. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Licht and son-in-law Michael Sussman; grandchildren, Caroline and Nicholas Sussman and husband Solomon Berenson. Burial services will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum or Iona Senior Services Wellness and Arts Center.
