With great sorrow we announce the passing of Francesca Irene Lakas, 58, on April 23, 2014. Born in Washington, DC she lived in Bethesda, Maryland with her husband of 34 years, Gregory Young Lakas. Mother of Maria Cavallo (Tony) and William Lakas (Crystal); grandmother of Lucas Cavallo and Noelle Lakas; daughter of the late Mary and Dino Economides; sister of Mino Economides (Fotini), the late Bill Economides (Patricia), Chris Economides, Reagan Economides, and Frank Economides (Dina). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held at Joseph Gawler's Sons, Inc. 5130 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. 20016 on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A formal funeral service will be held at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2815 36th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20007 on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with internment to follow at 1:00 p.m. at All Souls Cemetery in Germantown, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Sophia, Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, or So Others Might Eat.
