Fred, I can't believe how long you've been gone. I miss your laugh, your wit, your charm and smile. I hope you are with Rose now and finally at peace with yourself.


Fred and I met about 15 years ago when we were working at Maryland Gardens. We had so much fun planting trees together all day that we didn't want the fun to stop when work was over.

We would hang out at his house for, as he called them, nights of buffoonery. Rose was very tolerant of us as we'd act like overgrown boys playing video games, hitting golf balls in the park by their house, playing our guitars and singing god awful covers of Jimmy Buffet songs, chillin' on his back porch, and playing chess all night.

Fred was a great sailing companion when we went out on the Chesapeake in my Pearson sailboat. He'd bring smoked oysters, sardines packed in mustard and other weird canned meats for our adventures. We'd fish, and sail, and shoot his potato gun at imaginary pirate ships out on the bay. And I'll never forget our epic sailing adventure off the coast of Florida.

Fred, I miss you buddy. You were just so easy to be with, and we always had too much fun together. I can't believe there will be no more nights of buffoonery, or one more sailing trip on the Chesapeake together.

I fell fortunate to hold fond memories of card games in Tom's basement, post holiday football games, and 4 th of July birthday celebrations..and more. You will be missed by many, Fred.

Horno- I'm afraid too many years passed by since we last got together. Good memories of pig roasts at Riverfield, nights at the Royal Warrant, Cloptop's basement, and Thornapple Street. You will be missed.

Heartfelt condolences for Fred Sr., Carolyn,  and so many more of you who loved this fine person.He was an old-style gentleman and a scholar. He had a zest for life and his optimism for his sports never flagged. I am sure he made a profound impression on each of us that knew him.

Barefeet, shorts and a bandana in his back pocket down at Riverfield!  Frank and I had so much fun the last two summers with Fred, not to mention more than half our lifetime.  We miss you already!

The "Dude" abides....My best buddy for over 40 years. Just about every good time I have had in my life involved Fred in one way or another...I miss him and and WILL miss him every day for the rest of my time on this planet. I reckon Heaven is a much better place right about now....

I'm glad I got to see Fred again at a reunion of our high school poker game a few years ago.  And I'm glad he made it out to California to visit some years ago.  He was a good man and I miss him.  Roll on through the night, Fred.

Thanks for hosting that last poker game with the gang last year, and for all the Good Times we had when we wore younger men's clothes.  Sorry I will miss you on Friday, but I wish you the best on the other side. Michael Dolances.

Softball in Candy Cane City, football on the front lawn of the 4-H, Riverfield!, bowling at Columbia, playing tennis in the Dog Days of summer, Risk games that lasted for days in the basement of Underwood Street, “roaming the neighborhood”, camping in Catoosa, ski trips, biking the C&O canal – made it to White's Ferry once, driving to the end of River Road, Landon football games, “progressive” New Year's Eve celebrations, sledding on the Columbia golf course.

Dear Fred,
     Our hearts ache for you and we send you our deepest sympathy.  I can think of no worse pain.  I called Tine this morning to let her know but I am not sure how that turned out.  With our love,

Freddy, you were such a constant presence in my life for so many years growing up.  The job of sifting through the memories is a bittersweet one:  so many good times punctuated with some very sad times of loss.  Fred Sr. and Carolyn, my heart goes out to you.  Freddy, may you rest in peace.  (Like that'll be possible with Tom and Chip around...)

I have fond memories of spending an awful lot of time with Fred growing up.  We only saw each other on visits since college, but he always made time to get together. He was a great guy, and the world is a little less for his passing.  My thoughts are with his family and friends.

My vivid memories of you begin with your visit to Philly as  a lively grade-schooler to see us and the Franklin Institute, through last Thanksgiving, when you enchanted all of us with your quiet help and lively wit.  You are a love to all the family.

All of our memories of Fred and the gang with Tommie are treasured.  Fred,Sr. and Carolyn are in our prayers.

Dear cousin Freddie, you were just about the only family member younger than me so I enjoyed lording that over you.  I am so glad we got to hang out together for a few hours together this summer, just the two of us zooming around Riverfield and environs in what? a golf cart? an ATV?  It felt so good to connect with you again, and I'm so sad it was our last time together.   Uncle Fred, as a mom I can't imagine what you're going through now.  My heart goes out to you.  I am glad you two were such good buddies.

My dear Fred.  I will miss your unique wit and friendship.   You were not only the husband of my sister Rose but had won a place on our family's heart.  I hope you and Rose are together as I know that is what you both wanted, and watch over us that remain.  You and Rose will be in my prayers and memories.
