Genevieve Ducastel Collins
On December 3, 2021 in Jensen Beach, FL. A longtime resident of Washington, DC, Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband W. Bryant Collins. Born in France to Rene and Marguerite (Joyeaux) Ducastel, she immigrated to the United States as a young woman, earning her US citizenship.
She followed her husband throughout his Foreign Service career, where he was stationed in Europe, Africa, and Asia until his retirement in 1974. She taught French at the Foreign Service Institute in Washington, DC.
Genevieve was an excellent storyteller, and loved to tell stories of her and her husband’s overseas assignments. As an accomplished hostess, she prepared gourmet French meals, and loved the arts, especially classical music and piano concertos. She loved to read nonfiction books, and watch documentaries. Following her husband’s death, she relocated to FL continuing to learn new things, and never letting her age define her.
She is survived by her step-daughter Judy Hoy and her family, nephews Newton Collins and Blair Collins, her niece Monique in France, many friends in Jensen Beach, FL, and her faithful cats Amy and Mimi. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Treasure Coast Humane Society and the Caring Fields Felines Rescue of Palm City, FL. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday December 15, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, DC.
