Gerald “Jake” Jakubos died in Washington, DC on September 5, 2025, at the age of 69.
Jake was born on June 10, 1956, in Newton Township, Pennsylvania to Edith and (late) Joseph Jakubos. He graduated from Bloomsburg University in 1978 and pursued his passion in agriculture. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Samuel, in 1989. Together they raised their three kids, Oliver, Kendall, and Haley, in DC. He will be remembered by his children as a fun-loving dad who encouraged them to dream big and work hard.
Jake spent many years in the agriculture business. Starting at a young age, he worked on his family’s farm and helped run the family-owned produce market, Jakubos Bros. Produce. He later served as a food inspector for the Department of Agriculture and worked at Sol Salins, Inc., as well as Keany Produce.
Jake had a green thumb and loved tending to his yard and garden. He grew many fruits and vegetables such as zucchini, corn, tomatoes, onions, peaches, and sour cherries, all while managing to keep the deer away. He always shared the fruits of his labor with friends, neighbors, and family.
In addition to gardening, Jake loved to play and watch baseball and golf. He also loved to travel, including annual trips with his family where they forged lasting memories. Jake had a larger-than-life personality that impacted many of us deeply. His infectious smile and spirited sense of humor rarely led to a dull moment. Jake was a generous soul who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Jake is survived by his mother, Edith Jakubos; his brothers, Theodore and Joseph Jr. Jakubos; his three children, Oliver Samuel-Jakubos (Anna Bryant), Kendall Samuel-Jakubos, and Haley Samuel-Jakubos; his granddaughter, Margot Bryant Jakubos and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. He is preceded in death by many loved ones, including his wife, Linda Samuel, sister, Jean Richards (Jim Richards), and father Joseph Jakubos.
A celebration of Jake’s life is scheduled for Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Pennsylvania, and a second will be held in DC in November, with more details to follow. The family would like to thank all the wonderful care teams that cared so well for Jake over the many years.
