James Robert Bonfils

James Robert Bonfils, 90, passed away on April 11, 2016. Jim was born on December 25, 1925 in St. Louis, MO. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie Bernell Stemm Bonfils, who predeceased him in 2007. He was a loving father to Stacie (Larry) Benes, Washington, DC; Devereaux Raskauskas, Darnestown, MD; Darcy Bonfils, Atlanta, GA and Jim (Andrea) Bonfils, Darien, CT. Jim was a devoted grandfather to Jenn, Joseph and Carolyn Raskauskas and Ali and Lindsay Bonfils. Jim was a true member of the “Greatest Generation”: he served his country in Europe in WWII, graduated from St. Louis University, started a career in television sales and management, married Marge, started his family and moved them to Washington, DC in 1957. Jim was a brilliant entrepreneur, hard working, relentlessly upbeat, positive, kind and gracious to all he met. The family would like to thank the dedicated nurses and aides at the Riderwood Retirement Community who loved and took great care of Jim. Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, April 21, 4 pm – 7 pm, Joseph Gawlers Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. A service will be held in the Joseph E. Hagan Memorial Chapel of Joseph Gawler's Sons on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 10:45 am. Interment will be private.
