I just heard about Jeff’s passing and I’m so deeply sad to hear the news. Jeff was a really special person. During my first job out of college, I was 23 and worked in business development and cold called to get sales meetings for Jeff. Jeff was so fun to work with. Gave me a ton of confidence and included me in onsite meetings. We kept in touch after he left that role. Funny enough we only worked together for 2 or 3 months, but we kept in touch over the years. I guess this year would have been 9 years. I always had the most fun with Jeff. Could count on him for great style, drinks, and quick wit. Always appreciated his sales advice as well. He encouraged me to stay in sales and that definitely influenced me and my success today. I’m very grateful I got to know him. 

Charlie, we only met once when you first came back to DC when we had dinner at Barcelona. I remember we kept getting food brought to our table that we didn’t order and jeff said we were in the Bermuda Triangle. So sorry for your loss. Hugs to you and Nick and Buck.

Jeff was such a gracious person. Always bringing out the best in everyone.  Great friend over the years. 

I can't help but think of Jeff today in context of a conversation I had yesterday, kind of an argument about the best, the healthiest, balance between kindness and assertiveness. I think that for many of us - certainly for me - finding that balance isn't alway easy. To my eye, part of the magic of Jeff was that in him, these qualities didn't compete for space, neither one displaced the other, but they reinforced and highlighted one another. Jeff had a natural gift to both see others - their needs, their individuality, their joy - and to see, and fully live, his self-expression in relation to others. He could take stage, or hold court, while making you feel included - just as in today's karaoke video, where he owned his mic, but made sure Charlie had his hands on one, too. I have many wonderful memories of Jeff, and I think this quality of his is a thread that ties all of them together. We love you, Jeff.

I was so sad to hear of Jeff's passing. I have known him for nearly 40 years. He was always a charmer, always decent and so good-looking.  My deepest condolences to his family and to his partner Charlie.  Jeff will be missed by so many. May he RIP.

Jeff took the time to get to know me and truly help. I barley knew him but felt like I’ve known him my whole life. This time last year Jeff gave me some candid advice that I will never forget. I was shocked that he knew so much about me, and furthermore, how he was able to provide the right guidance to get me on the right path, in a short time. He has the natural ability to win friends and influence people. In short, I’m blessed to have known this man. He will be missed. 

 
He got me jobs, dried my tears over failed relationships, made my wedding elegant with a beautiful dinner in his spectacular home, and always had my back. I will never again see that combination of humanity, intellect and mischief that let Jeff get away with all the things you and I only dream of saying and doing.

Here are 2, of many, flashes of Jeff I had this week:
The sympathy and consternation on his face as he buttoned me into my coat (I was 32 years old) before leaving him.  After a romantic breakup, I was too fat and it wouldn't really button.  Somehow, he combined a sympathetic pep talk with a raised eye brow that made me feel even more loved and (only slightly) requested to try harder.

Lying on the floor, laugh-crying at a joke that helped relieve the hurts of some setbacks for each of us.  That moment where worry and frustrations bubble out as absurdity and lying flat seems appropriate. Cooper, delighted by our low altitude, hopping back and forth to lick our salty tears.

I have so many memories of Jeff that I will cherish and, though he is gone too soon, I am glad I got the chance to know him.
 

 

My memories of Jeff are filled with smiles, laughs, good food, and the best company.  When I think of Jeff, all I can see is that enormous smile he wore so well.

As others have said, he was the Mayor of Dupont Circle. It was a treat having him as a neighbor. Between doggy playdates at the local dog park, impromptu dinners at Mikko, long talks on the stoop, and beautiful dinner parties at his home, there was always one common thread: inclusiveness. He brought people together.

Jeff loved so many and so many loved him. I send my deepest condolences to Wendy, Charlie, and the entire Hosley family. Jeff is missed and will always be remembered.


I only have wonderful memories of Jeff, he was kind, funny, filled with joy and was very  inclusive. 

I met Jeff 25 years ago when I moved to D.C from Australia via New York. We were much younger and life was a party. Such wonderful memories that will never be lost. 

I am so thankful that I got to catch up with Jeff on my last visit 6 years ago. I am shocked and saddened to have heard of his tragic passing. A gaping hole has been left. My sincere condolences to Charlie, Jeff’s family and friends.

RIP 

I did not know Jeff well, but am so stunned and upset by his passing! He was one of the funniest  people I've ever met, and the epitome of the saying " people may not remember what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel" - Jeff made sure everyone felt included and welcome. What a gift he was!

We had the pleasure of meeting Jeff in 2016 at the local dog park in Dupont Circle, where we instantly bonded over our shared love of Boston Terriers—the first of plenty of entertaining conversations. We nicknamed him "The Mayor of Dupont Circle." I'm certain we weren't the first to think of him that way, it was plain as day that Jeff knew and was loved by just about everyone in the neighborhood. 

We were lucky enough to spend time with Jeff, the pups on both coasts; he had a true gift for making people around him feel welcomed. Ever the consummate gentleman and host, he was gregarious and funny, but also deeply thoughtful and kind. Jeff was always finding ways to help and connect others.  

Jeff’s memory will no doubt live on in the relationships he cultivated, and the profound and positive effect he had on those around him. Our most heartfelt condolences and wishes of comfort to Charlie, the Hosley family, Nick, Buck, and all of Jeff's many, many friends.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of a wonderful friend.  Jeff was kind, generous, and exceptionally creative!  I met Jeff six years ago when I started my business as an Illustrator in Washington, D.C.  and he commissioned me to paint portraits of his two dog babies, Buck and Nick, to be used on his holiday cards.  It's not often that clients turn into friends, but that is a testament to the type of person Jeff is.  He continued to commission new versions of his holiday cards year after year - from his time in San Francisco to his move back to D.C. with his partner Charlie.  Even though he was a client, our interactions were never transactional.  He invited me into his life, introduced me to his sister Wendy and to his many friends.  Jeff welcomed me warmly into his life.  He even brought my husband into his circle of friends, and I could tell all his friends adored him, his storytelling, sense of humor, and even occasional teasing!  I always joked with him that I printed more holiday cards for him every year than I did for my own wedding invitations.  I know he touched lives from coast to coast, and our world will never be the same without Jeff.  We miss you dearly!

I met Jef around 2013 and we worked together on and off for 4 years, eventually here in SF.

Jeff taught me that sales was personal, it was all about connections to people.  And wow, how he could connect with anyone, it was just amazing to be in his orbit.  He was friends with everyone and always looked to connect people in new ways.

But more than that, we just had fun.  Every business trip was filled with friends, fun, food (always the best food and wine), and a bit of work on the side.  I have so many stories of Jeff from SF, NYC, AMS, and BOS to share, but every time we saw a fur baby, needless to say we made new friends.

Jeff, you are missed by all and my heartfelt condolences to Charlie, Wendy, friends and family.

Jeff and his beloved dogs were our Corcoran Street neighbors. We often would encounter them all when out walking our Jack, as well as at the fitness club. Jeff is among the most gracious people we've ever known. His friendly approach was so sincere and the earnest sense of just caring he projected was so honest and rare. We will miss this special man.

I’m really sad and shocked to hear Jeff is no longer with us. We worked together, part of the same team for all the time Jeff was in SF, sitting a few desks aside. Jeff was wit, educated always bringing good mood to our meetings and events. Farewell Jeff, you certainly will be missed. 

I remember first meeting Jeff during his interview at my company. It was to be 30 minutes but wound up being closer to 90. I was struck by how personable and genuine he was, and how fun what a normally rote call became thanks to him. Over the year plus we worked together he made what we did into an adventure, and shrugged off the small stuff to its rightful level of importance. Once in DC he showed me his humble (read, totally not humble) abode, and I could see those wheels in his brain and that twinkle in his eye manifested fully into a glorious palace. Later on he visited me in my mid-century house in CA and immediately pointed things out, ideas, improvements to be made that I had seen but never really unpacked/thought about. He was passionate, a connector of people, and a snarky witty larger than life friend. What a loss - I hope his family knows how much he touched everyone. 

Jeff had such a big, bright personality.  He was quick with a joke, always had an ear to lend, provided support with kind words (or sarcasm) when needed, and never passed on an opportunity to bring a smile to those who were fortunate to be part of his world.  I loved getting random messages from Jeff, which always made me laugh.  I loved listening to Jeff talk about his family with so much love and pride.  I loved hearing about his crazy life and adventures.

I do not have the wisdom to understand why this happened, and I certainly do not have the words to express how much Jeff will be missed. I do know Jeff will not be forgotten.  Rest easy my friend.


Jeff and I initially met at a work meeting during the hustle and bustle of CES years ago. Years later, we met again at a "welcome dinner" when he joined the company I worked for as well, and before the first drink arrived we were already sharing photos of our furry loved ones: our Boston Terriers. Over the years, we kept in touch as best we could as he headed to SF and I jumped around Southern California and Arizona. We were able to touch base in person when work conferences allowed, and we were always a text away. Jeff was a personal and professional advocate with a warm heart, an infectious laugh, and sharp wit. 

Jeff, you are missed and you are remembered.

I still cant believe Jeff is no longer with us. Even in the short time I got to know Jeff at work during the past few months, I can't think of a person more genuine, passionate and engaged about ideas, work and life. Still remember his words on a video call just two days before his passing "I can go on talking forever if someone doesn't change the topic". Rest in peace, Jeff - you will be missed. My condolences and prayers for the family.

Jeff was so clever and witty, always put a smile on my face and on those around him.  He was a great leader and inspired greatness in others. Jeff will be greatly missed but thought of often.

I am in shock and deeply saddened by Jeff's passing. I had gotten to know him through work since early 2020 and got to work closely on some projects. He was always so lively and brought a smile to everyone's face in a meeting. Rest in peace, Jeff. My condolences and prayers for the family. 

Shocked and sad to learn that my birthday twin was taken from this world too quickly... and so thankful to have been friends for so many years. Jeff’s generosity, humor, big heart and passion for packing more fun into every minute will be cherished, as will his memory.

When I first met Jeff, we were young and skinny – somehow, he managed to stay that way. Our professional lives intertwined for a quarter century – I was his client and his colleague at several companies.  For those who never worked with our beloved Jeff, he was a star; accomplished, professional and successful at everything he tackled; his customers loved him because he was a smart and passionate advocate for them (as he was for his friends and causes).  I traveled a lot with Jeff, and have so many funny and crazy stories from trips to LA, San Jose, Las Vegas, Amsterdam and New York. My kids loved him when they were tiny and as adults, he became their friend – offering a professional hand to them as well as to me and my husband. Jeff was one of my best friends, he called me ‘princess’ (I am 59). A week ago, he told me I had to watch “The King of Staten Island,” which I did. I told him to come visit me. He was such a light - the world is a sadder and darker place without him, I had so many plans for us.

Jeff was a wonderful person, with a big personality and someone you noticed when he walked into the room.  His smile, wittiness and willingness to drop whatever he was doing to help you, made him an incredible human.  Although he exited this life (way to early), I am sure he is in eternity making others laugh, and already surrounded by many new friends.  
My sincerest sympathy to his family and close friends, as this is a void that will not be filled, but hopefully you will find peace and comfort in his memory, and realize that you are merely separated for now, but will be together again with Jeff, forever in eternity.

I've been trying to find the right words to share since I first heard the shocking news on Saturday afternoon.  I met Jeff in 2013 when we were both living in DC.  It was a connection of several degrees, as he was friends with Leika who happened to be the roommate/landlord of a guy I was dating at the time.  I can't recall the exact meal or occasion, but I remember the impression Jeff left on me- I wanted more face time with him.  Even when my relationship did not last, I continued to spend time with Jeff and Leika until moved to San Francisco in 2015- and then, to my delight, Jeff also moved out there a year later.  We ended up living in the same neighborhood, and spent many nights eating, drinking, and laughing in his beautiful apartment (he lived in the most lovely spaces!) with Charlie, Nick and Buck.   Jeff left to return to DC in 2019, and my now husband, baby and I followed to Virginia this past summer.  I am so glad that Jeff and Charlie were able to come and meet my daughter this October in a socially distant visit, I just wish we had taken more pictures.  Jeff gifted her a soft cube that makes these loud animal sounds, and it is her absolute favorite toy to this day.  Every time she grabs it I think of Jeff.  I wish there were more people like Jeff in the world, who just left you grinning from ear to ear after spending time with them.  I will miss you buddy, and Charlie and family my thoughts are with you.    

My deepest condolences to Jeff's loved ones. I have only known Jeff for 2 months when I started with AWS. Jeff was my on boarding buddy, someone to help me navigate AWS. In a short while his personality shined through. He was funny, witty, spoke his mind and resourceful. He reached out constantly to check on me. His presence was big and it will be missed on our team.  My prayer is for healing for all those who have been touched by Jeff especially those close. He spoke to me about his partner, parents and sister. I am keeping you all in prayer.

Jeff was a unicorn -- crazy intelligent, successful, gregarious, generous, focused, a lover of food and culture, a champion for his friends and their successes, the best host (he was THE entertainer and hostess with the mostest); he possessed a razor-sharp wit, a heart of gold, and a great ear.  Everyone knew Jeff and he knew everyone.  He has a brilliant ability to bring people together -- people from all his many different spheres seemed to always gel magically.  A true light.

Jeff was even present at my very first date with my now husband -- a bit of an anti-Valentine's Day party for a handful of fabulous single men.  And then Alper and I walked in... on a first date...  HA!  I knew not one soul there, but Jeff, being the social magnet he was, swooped over and introduced himself, making me feel instantly at ease.   

Jeff was my final real estate client before hanging up my Realtor hat for good.  It was an honor, a pleasure, and a horror.  The horror was only initially, as I was simply nervous about any potential bungle or mishap... it's JEFF, after all!  Who would feel good about screwing anything up when Jeff was involved?  ...Then again, it's Jeff, after all...  So, of course, it was great and I appreciated every bit of it.

His parties made me happy.  His dogs made me happy.  His Charlie is an amazing human.  We are all better people having shared any part of our lives with him.  While it may feel like the world has lost some light, we're all carrying a bit of that light for him.  Much love, Jeff.

 Such a loss of a wonderful, vibrant soul who made people laugh.  I had the pleasure of working with Jeff and when he was not giving me work advice, we would speak about art, restoration, amazing retreats/getaways, and family.  Last time we spoke was about the Peloton and the fact that I think he rarely missed a day since he got it and that I could never keep up!  This picture is from a year ago at Sales Kickoff in Chicago.  Thoughts and prayers to Jeff's family and friends.  

I met Jeff in the summer of 1994 and we immediately hit it off.  We became great friends and though there were long periods of time we didn’t see each other, every time we reconnected it was like it’s been only a week since we last saw each other. Jeff was one of the kindest, nicest and most genuine person I ever knew. His sense of humor, his mischievous giggles and his ability to befriend anyone with ease is what I loved most about him. The last thing I expected to hear Saturday morning was his passing. I’m deeply saddened and in utter shock. And as we did before every time we lost touch, my dear friend,  we will meet again. 

I had the amazing pleasure of sitting next to Jeff in the office and spent my last in person work  event with him in March, 2020.  We spent all day talking about life, work, ambitions, history, and mostly laughing and BS'ing over nothing.  We became fast friends that day.  We lost one of the best and I know how much his family and friends meant to him.  Jeff was one of the most authentic people I have ever met and I am so sad that those who care about him won't hear another one of his great stories.  My thoughts and prayers to those closest to him.  This quote helps me to try and understand when we lose those way too soon:    "Death is no more than passing from one room into another. But there's a difference for me, you know. Jeff was a pleasure to know in my career and will be greatly missed.  My heart goes out to your family during this time.  

Jeff and I worked very closely over the past two years and I am shocked  beyond disbelief to hear about his passing. Jeff was among the most honest, trustworthy and caring people I've ever met. No matter how stressful a situation was, I found Jeff to always be the voice of reason and to deal with it with his amazing patience. Above all, he treated everyone with respect and sought to bring people together. It is an enormous loss to all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

I am both shocked and saddened to learn of Jeff's passing. I met Jeff in the early 1990s when we worked at the same company. I was in New York at the time, and through Jeff's urging, I moved to Washington, DC where I spent the next 15 years among which were the best times of my life. I made many new friends through Jeff, some of whom remain close friends today. I won't forget Jeff taking me under his wing when I was new to DC. He was the life of any event, always laughing and smiling, and he was a magnet to which everyone was attracted. He will be sorely missed.

I just heard of Jeff's passing and wanted to share how much my heart hurts and just how incredibly blessed I was to have met him, known him and been his friend. He was one of the funniest and most inclusive people I have ever met. I know how important his family was to him and I wish you all peace, love and comfort during these times.  Much love, Nicole
