

Born on December 20, 1921 in Apiranthos, Naxos, Greece, Marietta Glezos immigrated to the United States in 1941 in her role as a caregiver to an infant of a Greek diplomatic family. She settled inWashington, DC, where she married her husband, Matthew Petros, in 1945 and raised four children. She devoted her entire life to serving her family with her compassion, her love and her Christian values.
Marietta is survived by her children, Evelyn (Paul), George, Irene (Eftihios), Vasilios Bill (Janice), six grandchildren, Matthew, Kristen (Marco), Stephen, Peter, Pavlos, and Aphrodite Marietta, and her great-grandson, Gabriel.
Family, relatives, and friends are invited to call at JOSEPH GAWLER’S SONS, INC., 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W. on Monday December 22, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2815 36th Street, N.W. Washington, DC on Tuesday December 23rd at 10:30 a.m. Internment at Fort Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Philoptohos Society of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
