Martina Chapin

On Wednesday, September 5, 2012, Martina Calomiris Chapin of Chevy Chase, MD, peacefully passed away in her home. Born October 18, 1915, in New York to parents George and Yanoula Vlahos Calomiris, she was the beloved wife of the late Christ Chapin; a devoted mother who survived her three children, George (Glenda) Chapin, The Honorable James (Katharine) Chapin, and Vivian (William) Tuerk; the adoring grandmother of Chris, Tina, Marian, Marlana, Christopher, Jackie, and Peter; and the loving great grandmother of Trisha, Stephanie, Joshua, Jacob, James, George, Vivian, and Isadore. She was preceded in death by her brothers James, William, Peter, and Donald. The family will receive visitors on Monday, September 10 from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Joseph Gawler's Sons Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20016. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 11 at 10 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, where Martina was a long-standing and faithful member, located at 7701 Bradley Boulevard, Bethesda, MD 20817. Interment will follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate memorial contributions to the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George.
