Mrs. Bochanis will be missed tremendously!  She was a bright light in our church and always full of love. Her smile will never be forgotten.  May we all aspire to be like her and show love and compassion for all. Thank you for all you have done for so many. I will miss your sweet face! Rest peacefully.

Mary was a dear friend and confidante of many years.  Mary and Gus were a warm and welcoming presence at St Sophia, whose kindness left a lasting impression on all who met them.  Their legacy of service to the church community will never be fogotten. Our entire mourns their loss.

Mrs. Bochanis will always be remembered by many as one of the most respected and kind people, from the greatest generation, who gave so much of herself to the community.  We will miss her as we miss Mr. Bochanis, and pray for her soul and for eternal paradise. May both of their memories be everlasting!!!

Dear Sweet Mary, I will always remember your smile and love.  We joked over the years about my Uncle, who was very fond of you.   Gus was always so thoughtful and helpful when I was elected to the Board a  t Church.  Your whole family was a force to be reckoned with!  And, who can forget your family's ice cream? Our family is profoundly sad at losing one of the most formidable, effective, charming,  loving, and indomitable stalwarts of not only our Cathedral’s church community, but of the greater secular community as well.  

Mary’s beloved late husband, Gus, a man worthy of her and even more, has shared her long enough with us in this dimension and now rejoices at their reunion in the overwhelming light of the Lord they both served so long and so faithfully at their final resting place among the other national heroes of the beaches of Normandy at Arlington National Cemetery.

Thank you Mary and Gus for the life you lived, from welcoming my parents to DC some 70 years ago, to your always loving support, kind words of praise for us and for our children and your tireless work for our church and our community. Both of you were and are an exceptional example to us all and you will be deeply and longingly missed in good and bad times. 

With gratitude for the exceptional people both of you were and are still in our lives, with heavy tears in our eyes of sorrow, with a smile on our faces for your long lives and lasting legacy, and with eternal love, we bid you farewell until we are all together once again.

What can I say about Mary. She embraced me and  my family and always had kind words and a smile. Her presence at church was iconic.  I will truly miss her.
The only thing good is now she is with  her husband now who was equally wonderful.

Mary was one of our longest serving volunteers at The Children’s Inn at NIH. She began volunteering in August of 1990 when The Inn first opened its doors. For the past 28 years, she volunteered every Wednesday, hardly ever missing a shift. For many of those years, Mary volunteered at the welcome desk greeting staff, residents and guests with a bright big smile and often a hug too. Later, she assisted our residents at the breakfast station offering them a quick bite to eat and a cup of coffee before heading off to the Clinical Center. She often assisted with Greek translations for residents during their medical appointments making them feel less anxious.
Mary’s commitment to serving others never wavered throughout the years. She had an incredible presence that made you want to be around her in any room. Her grace, sense of humor and the ability to show love and compassion to everyone she met will be deeply missed here at The Inn.
