Nancy Troland Cushman, beloved wife of Lieutenant General (US Army Ret) John H. Cushman, died at their home in the Knollwood Military Retirement Residence in Washington, DC. Nancy was born at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, the daughter of Captain Girard B. Troland, Corps of Engineers, and Marion Bragaw Troland. She grew up an Army daughter in a loving and caring family. Entering her final year at Connecicut College, Nancy met her future husband, West Point cadet Jack Cushman, at Fort Benning, GA. A year later they were engaged. They were married in June 1946 at Fort Sam Houston, TX. With her husband Nancy raised five daughters and two sons generating a family that now embraces 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. For almost four decades she enjoyed with Jack the pleasures of retirement and grandparenthood. To be a wife and mother was all that Nancy ever wanted. She not only delighted in that life; she was marvelous at it. Loving unreservedly her husband and children and showing consummate grace, kindness and honesty to all in the everyday things of life, she was without pretense. Enduring the occasional hardship, disappointment and adversity without complaint and taking great joy daily in the little things, she comforted with words and action those in distress. Surviving are Constance Cushman, Cecelia Bohannon, Kathleen Cushman, Mary Cushman Escherich, John H. Cushman, Jr., Theodore T. Cushman, and Anne B. Cushman. A celebration of her life will take place at Knollwood, 6200 Oregon Avenue NW, November 16 at 10 a.m. Funeral will be at West Point, NY at Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity, Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. A celebration of her life will take place at Knollwood, 6200 Oregon Avenue NW, November 16 at 10 a.m. Funeral will be at West Point, NY at Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity, Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10 a.m.
