Nicholas Amoruso passed away on December 10, 2016 at his home in Cabin John, Maryland. He was the deeply beloved eldest son of Philip and Clare Amoruso, also of Cabin John. Born on July 4, 1979, Nick went on to graduate from Walt Whitman high school in 1997. He graduated from the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business with Honors in 2001. He was very smart, charming, attractive and extremely likable... all the ingredients one could hope for to have a successful career and productive life. His long battle with drug addiction began in high school and derailed many of his dreams from being fully realized. At the time of his death, he was employed by Nuance Communications in Rockville, MD.
Nick was an avid whitewater kayaker, surfer, and skier until he sustained a back injury in 2010. He had successful back surgery six months ago and was looking forward to getting back on the ski slopes this winter, and this summer putting his kayak in the Potomac and surfing at the beach. Being near the ocean brought him peace. He also enjoyed traveling and electronic music.
Nick had an unusually charming personality. He could draw out the shyest person in a room full of people, actively engage them, and put them at ease. He radiated kindness from a very early age. He left his mark on the world with his warmth, his wonderful sense of humor, and his simple goodness.
He will be sorely missed by the many lives he touched. In addition to his parents, Clare and Philip, he is survived by his brothers, David Amoruso of Lilongwe, Malawi, and Paul Amoruso of Washington, D.C., as well as numerous loving relatives and friends.
Friends and relatives may call at Gawler’s Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, Washington, D.C. (valet parking) on Sunday, December 18, from 4 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, 6900 River Road, Bethesda, MD, on Monday, December 19, at 11 a.m.
