On Sunday, December 29th, 2024 at Arden Courts, Kensington, Maryland, Patricia Anne Moore Rodgers answered God’s calling and peacefully transitioned to His beautiful garden. She was the first born to the union of Thelma Teresa Smith Moore and Phil Moore, Sr. Her birth was a joyous event and she quickly proved to be precocious and spirited. Several years later, the family was blessed again with the birth of her brother, Phil, Jr.
Patricia’s formative years were spent in Newport News, Virginia where she received numerous academic honors during her grammar and high school years. Her academic achievements continued when she was awarded a full scholarship to attend Hampton Institute in Hampton, Virginia. She had graduated with one of the highest grade point averages of her high school class. She maintained this level of achievement graduating magna cum laude from Hampton. Her graduate education continued at American University, University of Virgina and the University of Maryland.
Her career was a rewarding one with many impressive achievements during her work for the Federal government. Ultimately, Patricia was promoted to the Senior Executive Service (SES), the highest rank attainable by a federal civilian employee. As a professional in human resources management/personnel, she worked for the Departments of Labor, Commerce, General Services Administration and the General Accounting Office. Once retired, she consulted, taught and worked as a mediator and arbitrator.
Through the years those who knew her spoke of the importance she placed on self-improvement and constructive pursuits. She was always interested and willing to support the career and personal advancement of others. To many she has been a role model, a mentor and a good friend – always quick of wit, strong in her convictions and optimistic.
While her interests were many and cosmopolitan, she always expressed the value of youngsters and the importance of preparing them educationally and spiritually for the future. She thoroughly enjoyed taking time with children, inviting them into her office for a friendly chat when they visited their parents at work or assisting them with summer employment.
On many occasions Patricia was asked what contributed most to her personal success, and she always responded, “the influence, support and encouragement of strong, loving parents who always urged me to do my very best at all that I pursued”. She was always helping others with their career advancement and frequently someone whom she had assisted would ask what they could do to repay her, her response was always the same “simply help someone else, give something back.” This response epitomized her, she always looked beyond her own success to reach out and help and encourage others to succeed.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 12:00PM at Joseph Gawler's Sons Funeral Home, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue NW Washington, DC 20016. Interment Services will be private.
