Paul Austin Dorn, Jr., M.D.

1930 - 2013

On Saturday, February 16, 2013, Dr. Paul Austin Dorn. Jr, died after a long and courageous battle with the aftermath of a stroke. He was born in Cambridge, Mass., and grew up in Manchester, NH. He graduated from St Anselm's College in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army. He pursued pre-medical studies in the basic sciences at Boston College, where he met and married his wife the former Georgette Marie Magassy in 1961. He moved to Washington, D.C. and graduated from the Georgetown University Medical School in 1965. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the Washington Hospital Center and his residency training in Ophthalmology at George Washington University and at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He was a member of the American Medical Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the DC, Maryland and Virginia Medical Societies. He practiced as a successful Ophthalmologist in Temple Hills, MD, for 44 years. He was also an Associate Clinical Professor emeritus at George Washington Medical School. In addition he was able to combine his private practice, with charitable work for the Archdiocese of Washington Health Network and with a clinic in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. He was a member of Church of the Little Flower parish. Beloved husband of Georgette Magassy Dorn, loving father of Georgette Verdin (James Verdin), Dr. Elizabeth Magassy Dorn, Susan Dorn (Dr. Adam Jonas), and Paul Gabriel Dorn (Janet N. McClelland), grandfather of Avi and Sandor Jonas and Owen Dorn, and brother of Donald Dorn (Joan Dorn) and Robert Dorn.

Family and friends will be received at Gawler's Funeral Home on February 22 between 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Church of the Little Flower, 5601 Massachusetts Ave., Bethesda, MD on Saturday, February 23 at 12:15 p.m.
