Richard Willard Jeffcoat

Richard Willard “Jeff” Jeffcoat, 83, of Bethesda, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on April 21, 2025, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born May 13, 1941, to the late Colie Willard Richbourg and Ouida Belle Jeffcoat Johnson. He was a 9 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a 3 year veteran of the United State Air Force. He attended the University of South Carolina. On October 6, 1962, he wed Nancy Louise Wood in Norfolk, Virginia. Jeff enjoyed a passion for nature, painting, literature, and the Appalachian Trail. His last years were spent with his loving and constant feline companion, Penny.

He is survived by his loving wife Nancy of 62 years; daughters, Susan (Michael) Tolley of Bainbridge Island, WA; Meredith (Alejandro) Mirkow of Bethesda, MD; Colie Davis of Chesterfield, SC; granddaughters Elizabeth Meggett (Jon) Tolley-Stein of Kent, WA, and Sophia Jade Davis of Chesterfield, SC; and grandsons Nicholas Michael (Catherine ‘Cat’ Huang) Tolley of Providence, RI, Gabriel Alejandro Mirkow of Bethesda, MD, and Llewyn Gene Davis of Chesterfield, SC. He is also survived by sisters Joyce Marie Langley, Wanda (Sam) Schumpert, Susie Mack (Wayne) Smith; and brothers Everett Bud Jeffcoat, John Edward (Becky) Richbourg, and Wayne (Donna Sue) Richbourg; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather Raymond Lee Johnson; Nancy’s parents, Hurley Lee and Beveridge Althea Wood; sisters Gail Patrick “Patsy” Jeffcoat Hydrick and Faith Baldwin Richbourg Miles; and brother Thomas Oscar. Richbourg.

A funeral and memorial Mass will be held April 28, 2025, at Church of the Little Flower (5607 Massachusetts Ave, Bethesda, MD 20816) at Noon. A private committal will take place at a later date at Sardis Baptist Cemetery in Swansea, SC.
