Stella Maroulis Kotzalas passed away on September 19 surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Piraeus, Greece, she moved to the U.S. as a young bride of the late Peter Maroulis after WWII. Together they operated a dry cleaning company in the heart of Georgetown for over 40 years with many dignitaries of the day as loyal customers, including the late President John F. Kennedy.
An avid tennis player, and an elegant and legendary hostess, she and her devoted and loving husband of 42 years, William Kotzalas, enjoyed entertaining and welcomed their many friends and family at their beautiful home.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Martha Alafoginis of McLean, her daughter and son-in-law Alexandra Maroulis Cronmiller and Rae Cronmiller of Falls Church, her granddaughter Kristina and husband Martin Vedder of McLean, her granddaughter Jackie and husband Mark Vandermeersch of Falls Church, her grandson George and wife Betsy Alafoginis of Falls Church, and her granddaughter Katerina Cronmiller of New York City. She is also survived by her three great grandchildren Stella Vedder, William Vedder, and her newest great granddaughter, Emma Sophia Alafoginis, born the day before she passed.
Her love and support of family will inspire us all our lives.
Services will be held on Tuesday, September 26 at St Sophia Cathedral: 10:00 am viewing, 11:00 a.m. Funeral mass. Interment will be private. Contributions can be made to St Sophia Cathedral Restoration Fund.
