July 1, 2023, Vivian Tribby Adle, 81, of Chevy Chase, MD, passed away peacefully with her beloved daughters Tammy (Stone) and Melissa (Schlinger) by her side.
Vivian was born on December 2, 1941, in Washington, DC. to the late Herbert Tribby and Elizabeth (Dement) Tribby. The youngest of four daughters, Vivian attended the Holton Arms School (’59) and had two daughters of her own with her first husband, Hormoz Adle. She volunteered regularly for Sibley Hospital for over thirty years where she developed long lasting friendships and brought joy to patients through the bookmobile service, though her true contributions were spending time with patients who didn’t have visitors and decorating Sibley Hospital for the holidays. Vivian’s second husband, the late Henry Ludwell Jones, was the true love of her life, and together they enjoyed spending time with friends and family, their beloved cat, Tippy, and taking cruises in the Caribbean.
In more recent years, Vivian’s favorite pastimes included lunching at her favorite restaurants in Chevy Chase with friends and companions and spending time with her daughters and their families, especially her four grandchildren, Lucy Stone (22) and Zack Stone (21), and William Schlinger (15) and Nora Schlinger (15).
Vivian will be remembered by all who knew her for her wicked sense of humor, infectious laugh, and fighting spirit, all of which were especially on display during her final health challenges over the past several months. As one of her oldest friends commented, “What a force she was, how funny, how endlessly devoted, how hard to grasp she is gone.”
Vivian is survived by beloved daughters, Tammy Adle Stone and Melissa Adle Schlinger; dear stepdaughters, Starr Jones Maxwell and Mary Latane Jones Rossi; four grandchildren, and several step grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to call at Joseph Gawler's Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Ave. at Harrison St., NW, Washington, DC on Thursday, July 6th from 5 to 7 p.m. Services will be held at Joseph Gawler's Sons on Friday, July 7th, 2023 at 11:00 AM followed immediately by a lunch reception. Internment at Fort Lincoln Cemetery at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Sibley Memorial Hospital or Capital Caring Hospice of Washington DC; or the charity of your choice.
