Anne Dolores Hughes, 58 of Salisbury Mills, NY passed peacefully on Monday, August 9, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was a paragon of strength and resilience as she fought and survived multiple forms of cancer for over twenty-five years. She was a loving mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a caring and devoted friend. She was born on Staten Island, NY to Geraldine Sherman (Gentner) and Gerald W. Gentner.
Anne loved her clients and was passionate about her career as an aesthetician and surgical technician at Bellava MedAesthetics and Spa in Bedford Hills, NY.
Anne lived her life with a strong will, tireless energy, and passion that touched all that knew her. She enjoyed cooking, hosting celebrations with family and friends, live music, and gardening barefoot in her Ramones t-shirt. Every occasion was celebrated with an enthusiastic spirit of generosity and giving that brought joy to her family and friends. She was always the first one out on the dance floor. One of her greatest joys in recent years was the birth of her grandsons Carter and Grayson. She loved exploring the world – sailing the Maltese coast, snorkeling in the Alaskan Bay, roaming through European cities, hiking in Zion National Park, fishing in Naples, Florida and upstate New York, spelunking in Mexico, and relaxing on the beach with friends in Saint Martin, to name a few of her many adventures. The absences created by her departure are too numerous and immense to contemplate, but her gifts of love, light, and laughter will persist in all who knew her.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Jeffrey Stewart of Middletown, NY for his unwavering support and care for over twenty years.
She is survived by her daughter MaryBeth O’Donoghue and her husband Ryan of Troy, NY, and her son Ryan Hughes and his wife Jackie of Pattersonville, NY; her beloved grandchildren, Grayson Hughes and Carter Hughes of Pattersonville, NY; parents, Geri Micallef Sherman and her husband Jerry Sherman of Salisbury Mills, NY, and Gerald Gentner and his wife Susan Haskell of Teaneck, NJ; sister, Laura Carlstrom and her husband John of Salisbury Mills, NY; brother, John Sherman and his wife Sarah Tomsyck of Broad Run, VA; niece, Maggie White and husband Matt of Charlotte, NC; nephew, David Carlstrom of King’s Bay, GA; great-nephew, Griffin White of Charlotte NC; and many beloved friends.
“Don’t sweat the small stuff. It is what it is.”
A memorial mass will be held at a later date and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to sarascure.org in Anne’s name.
