

Walter, son of the late Walter and Grace Lindsay nee McKinely, was born May 9,1938, in Gurock Scotland. The family immigrated to Brooklyn NY via Ellis Island when he was 18 months old. He attended John Jay HS graduating in 1956 before joining the US Navy.
From 1957 – 1959 he was in the US Navy and spent most of his service aboard the USS Hawkins maneuvering between the North Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. This service at sea sealed his life-long love of the water and sailing, whether it was watching from the dock or sailing his boat.
He married the love of his life Laura M Mazza on October 20, 1962 in St Thomas Aquinas Church Brooklyn NY. They bought the corner delicatessen, “Walt's Deli,”in Brooklyn NY and did catering with his wife. They were an awesome force together, creative, clever, hard working with a wonderful sense of humor. He became a central player in the neighborhood, and everyone loved him.
An adventurer at heart, Walter was always looking for new adventures and opportunities.
In 1970 he purchased an Arnold Bread distribution route in Orange County NY, moved his growing family and built a house to raise their five children in Blooming Grove NY. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to the development of several businesses, including retail, food management, and real estate. In 2000 he and Laura happily retired to New Bern NC.
He is predeceased by his father and mother, Walter and Grace Lindsay, as well as his dear mother and father in-law Maria and Anthony Mazza.
Survived by his adored wife Laura M Lindsay nee Mazza as well as five children and nine grandchildren, Judith Lindsay-Connolly and her husband Frank and their children Hope and Frankie of Pine Bush NY, Stephen Lindsay and his wife Rosemarie (O'Callaghan) and their children Emily and Julia of Middletown NY, James W Lindsay Jr and his wife Rose (Toscano) of Middeltown NY, David Lindsay and his children Anthony and Victoria of Forestburgh NY, Susan Kurg and her husband Robert and their children Nathaniel, Andrew and Nicholas of Middletown NY, sister Margret Desantis and her husband Ray of New Bern NC, brother Phillip Lindsay and his wife Deseree of South FL and brother in law Mauro Mazza and his fiancee Fran Hoffmann as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties or Ronald McDonald House at Westchester Medical Center.
