
Kenneth Bruce Schoonmaker, age 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on April 16, 2015, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born on January 23, 1932, in Goshen, New York, he lived the majority of his life in Newburgh and recently relocated to Las Vegas to be near family. After graduating from The New York State College for Teachers in Albany, he served in the Army from 1955-57. He later earned a master’s degree in education. It was while in graduate school that he met his wife, Patricia Ann Cogswell, also a teacher. The two were married on June 26, 1960. Kenneth was a social studies teacher for many years in the Cornwall School District. He enjoyed international travel, tracing his family history, skiing, and Broadway theater. He served as a member and past-president of the Lions Club for more than 25 years, and was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, D. Bruce Schoonmaker and Anne D. Ballman, and his wife, Patricia. He is survived by his stepmother, Jane Hoerner, daughter, Amy Schoonmaker, son, Eric Eden, and granddaughters, Philippa and Eleanor Eden. A viewing will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015, at David T. Ferguson Funeral Home at 20 North Street in Washingtonville, New York. A short service will follow the viewing.
