

Raymond Joseph Dorval1931-2015VASSALBORO - Raymond Dorval passed away on May 18, 2015, at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta after a short illness. He was born in Waterville on Oct. 26, 1931, the son of Stanley and Marie Dorval.Ray attended Waterville High School, leaving in his junior year to join the Army in May of 1949. He was stationed in England, and was discharged on Oct. 24, 1952. Ray worked as a carpenter and was a millwright, an honorary member for 60 years. He joined the carpenter's local 320 on Dec. 15, 1955. He enjoyed working around the house, and fixing everything that needed to be fixed. He was always ready to help a friend.Ray loved to be on his riding lawn mower, having his lawn looking perfect.Ray was a life-long member of the Winslow VFW. He received a 35 year certificate from the American Legion in Waterville last week. Ray and his wife Eleanor (Ellie) enjoyed 21 years wintering in Bonita Springs, Fla. They had many good friends and enjoyed the sunshine away from the cold, snowy winters in Maine. He loved his politics, watching CNN and MSNBC every day when he could. He loved music, especially country. The TV or the radio was always on.Ray was predeceased by his parents; twin brother, Armand, and brothers, Roland, Hector, his sister, Rose; granddaughter, Janna; and mother-in-law, Orlean Weaver.Surviving are his wife, Eleanor; son, Michael Dorval and wife, Susie of Oakland, daughters Becky of Waterville, Debbie of Bonita Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Mike Dorval, Joe Dorval, Nicole and Nathan Wright; and five great-grandchildren; stepsons, Randy Gagne and wife, Lisa, Todd Gagne and friend, Jessica; step-grandchildren, Eric Gagne and wife, Laura, Ashley and Jeremy Obptande, Sidney and Dylan Gagne; and two step-great-grandchildren; sister Evelyn Mitchell of Blue Hill, close sisters and brothers-in-law Gloria and husband, Blaine Moxcey of Waterville, Martha and husband, Ed Johnson of Washington state, Richard Hansen of Springvale, and sister-in-law Janice Dorval of Vassalboro; special niece, Barbara Wilson, who Ray thought so much of and has done so much for him and Eleanor; special friends of many years, Michael and Leona Miller of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.At Ray's request, there will be a graveside service at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 23, at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville. Reception will follow at the Sacred Heart Church Reception Hall on Pleasant St. in Waterville.
