Winslow – Lamoine “Lee” Hughes, 59, of Winslow, husband, father and especially proud grandfather passed from this life to the next with family at his side on Saturday February 11, 2017. He was born in Augusta on August 2, 1957, a son of Elizabeth and Robert Hughes. He attended Augusta schools and graduated from Cony High School.
His career was in construction, mostly bridge work, and he retired as a foreman. Lee enjoyed anything outdoors – hunting, fishing, boating, working in his vegetable and flower gardens, and taking his granddaughter for walks. He also enjoyed collecting dragons and even used the handle “DragonMaster”. However, nothing in this life gave him greater satisfaction or sense of accomplishment than being a grandpa to his cherished “Princess”, Madalyn.
Lee is survived by his best friend of 35 years and wife of 30, Michelle Hughes; his son Josh Hughes and his wife Sarah; his two granddaughters: Madalyn and soon to be Harper Lee; his sister Karen Giguere and husband Jim; his brother Todd Hughes; his mother-in-law Anita Farrell; sister-in-law Vanessa Hews; brother-in-law Todd Pooler; brother-in-law Bradley Pooler and his wife Angel; sister–in-law Lisa Giguere and husband Tony; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Jeremy Fortin and Celeste Willey; and last but never least, his faithful companion “Tanner”.
A time of gathering and visitation will be held on Friday February 17 from 5-7 pm at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Waterville with a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday February 18 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 112 Elm Street, Waterville. Burial will be later this summer in Village Cemetery before an appropriate summer celebration of his life.
