

Augusta--Lois G. Cooper, 68, after a life of many joys and blessings, passed away on May 16, 2012 in Augusta, Maine. She was born June 11, 1943 in Mineola, NY, the daughter of William and Rose (Watson) Goldschmidt. She grew up in Appleton, Maine and graduated from Camden High School in 1961.
Lois then graduated from the University of Maine in Orono in 1965 with a B.S. in Home Economics. That was where she met her husband Pete. She taught kindergarten in Skowhegan, Maine for one year and then taught Home Economics and Health at Waterville High School from 1972 retiring in 2000. She started her own business, Cooper’s Creative Banners, in 1973 that made school championship banners for many schools throughout Maine. Lois also worked as a consultant to the Maine Department of Education HIV Prevention Education Program doing teacher trainings in HIV prevention curricula. She
collaborated in the writing of 3 curricula that are used in many high schools and middle schools in Maine.
Lois enjoyed vacationing with special friends Bonnie and Bill Dolley as well as social functions, especially with the members of the Association of School Secretaries of Waterville High School. She also sat on the Board of Directors of the Fairfield PAL and the United Way of Central Maine. She was a big supporter of Lawrence Football when her husband coached and Bonny Eagle Football where her son coaches. She enjoyed spending March in Florida and summers at camp in Burnham.
Lois is survived by her husband of 47 years Earle “Pete” Cooper. He was the love of her life and the best partner she could ever ask for. She was so proud of her children, son Kevin and wife Amanda Cooper of Buxton and daughter Kim and husband Toby Suttie of Fairfield. She found endless joy in her 4 grandsons: Cameron, Colby, and Caden Cooper and Jacob Suttie and loved being involved in their activities and games.
She also is survived by her brother Bill Goldschmidt and wife Jeanne of Hollis and her sister Joanne Parker and husband Gene of Haverhill, Mass.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the people at the Alfond Center for Cancer Care especially Dr. Andrew Hertler as well as all the nurses, doctors, and workers on the Oncology floor of Maine General Hospital, Augusta Campus.
Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 7-9 PM, Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Waterville. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 AM, Wednesday, May 23rd at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Silver Street, Waterville. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield.
