

WINSLOW - Louis Philippe Tardif, 83, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 22, 2011. Mr. Tardif was born in Brunswick on October 7, 1927, the son of Louis and Amanda (Giroux) Tardif. He attended Waterville schools and graduated from Waterville High School in 1945.
He met his wife, the former Thérèse Bernier of Montreal, Canada, in Maine in 1953. They were married on April 11, 1955 in Montreal and settled down in Waterville, moving to their current home in Winslow in 1960.
Mr. Tardif was employed as a young man at Tardif’s Jewelers in Waterville, which was owned by his uncle, and the State of Maine in Augusta. He was a clerk stenographer at Scott Paper Company in Winslow for 38 years, retiring in 1990. He served as treasurer for H & W Relief for 24 years and was employed briefly during his retirement at Taconnet Federal Credit Union in Winslow. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Winslow and enjoyed traveling and other leisurely activities with his wife, their four children and two granddaughters.
Mr. Tardif was predeceased by his parents, his stepfather Emile Bouchard; and his sister, Violet Dutill. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Thérèse of Winslow; a daughter, Lucie Tardif of Portland; three sons, Michael and his partner, Harvey Cohen, of Kensington, Maryland; Marc and his wife, Karen, and their daughters, Allison and Amanda, of Franklin, Mass.; and André of Waterville; two stepbrothers, Rev. Donald Bouchard of Laval, Canada, and Leo Bouchard and his wife, Monique, of Montreal, Canada; one aunt, Muriel Giroux of Augusta; a brother-in-law, Rev. Robert Bernier of Laval, Canada; two nephews and several grand and great nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Thursday, March 24 at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street in Waterville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church in Winslow on Friday, March 25 at 9 AM. A Committal Service to be held directly after Mass. A private burial will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Waterville. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in the name of Louis Tardif to St. John’s the Baptist School, 15 South Garand Street, Winslow, ME 04901.
