Darnel Freeman Austin was born December 21, 1959 to David Austin Sr. and Iris Poole in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He attended Ann Arbor schools and was a graduate of Huron High School. Darnel obtained a welding certificate from WeldTech Welding Education Center.

He married the love of his life in 1993 to Laura Austin. Darnel and Laura owned a Janitorial Service where they shared the day to day operations. While they were very different, they shared the same “LOVE” for each other. Darnel cherished being a ‘’PaPa’’ to Jorge.

Darnel had a motorcycle that he treated like a baby, he loved to bike ride, play basketball and his love for bowling left him with 800 and 300 rings. Some of the things they enjoyed doing together were hanging out in Royal Oak and going to Canada to eat. While in Canada, Laura would gamble while Darnel people watched.

A memorial gathering for Darnel will be held Monday, August 3, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Contributions in Darnel's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.HarryjWillWayne.com for the Austin family.

When I moved to Detroit back in 2008, I was introduced to Darnel as one of our contractors. We immediately hit it off and have been friends ever since. Over the last few years we have gotten closer, doing lunches and hanging out here and there. He had become such a confidant, someone I could trust without question. I will miss him dearly. My heart aches and I cannot believe he is gone. Frank

I’m so sorry for your loss. I've been knowing Darnel for many years, he worked out a lot at Balls Total Fitness when I worked as a receptionist. He was a very respectful man always saying a kind word whenever he came in he truly will be missed. My prayers are with his wife and family. RIP Darnel.

My Brother Darnel,

So many memories to share! You were such a down to earth keep it one hundred type of guy who I always respected. One who would always tell it like it was “ My type of human being”. Whenever I would need something done handy you were always there giving a helping hand no questions asked. We had good times bowling 🎳 on the same bowling team. You would always call me “pimp” our own inside joke😊. Again, so many memories.

This tragic accident still has me in dis believe. You will be missed around here. Just know I will help your wife “Laura” get through things down here but also know you will truly be missed and she will live your beloved name on. You are her ❤️and soul!

Until we meet again, rest easy my brother Darnel❤️

Love You Always,
Pimp(Khim) and Khatie

I had the opportunity to have a couple of riding trips with Darnell on our motorcycles.
The time I will never forget is Darnel being the king of Canada. The guys in Canada loved his BMW motorcycle. His chest was stuck out and that smile he has could be seen by everyone.
He stated it was about time he got recognized, that he was tired of us Harley boys getting all the attention.

I am still in shock over Darnels death. I have known Darnel and Laura for many years. I have always enjoyed bowling in tournaments or just practicing with him on a random day. We truly had a unique bond and I will miss him dearly. Laura and family, you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of Darnel's passing. It was just two weeks ago I thought of him and the old memories of working with him in 1986-1988 at McDonalds in Ypsilanti. I haven't seen him since I moved to Chicago in late 1988, but I often thought and skeed a mutual friend about him along with our friends we worked with. I was just two weeks ago I was thinking I should call our mutual friend and ask about him. Now I wish I did call. I have so many lasting funny memories working with him I will cherish even more. May He RIH . I pray for strength for his wife and family during this time. Kelly Robinson,

Darnel and I had a good friendship especially bowling at Wayne Bowl. He would tell me keep on cooking those good cakes and always be yourself. Don't let others get to you, because you can't please everyone... A Good Man like him will be truly Missed! RIP........

Darnel was a man of great honor, power and integrity. I will miss the numerous conversations, guidance, advice and his wonderful sense of humor. Every time I see a red motorcycle, watching a basketball game, riding thru Ypsilanti and cruising down Woodward Avenue to Birmingham, I will always think of Darnel. I will truly miss Darnel and will keep his family in prayer.

“The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.” – Bob Marley
