Charles "Jets" Jeter Beard

Charles Jeter Beard, 76, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation in Fishersville, where he had been a patient for the past three years. He had been in declining health for several years.

He was born in Waynesboro, VA on August 31, 1935 and was a son of the late Charles and Annie (Radford) Beard. He was a graduate of Waynesboro High School.

Jeter was preceded in death by his parents and former wife and mother of his children Charlotte Marie Baber Beard and a very special cousin, Sterling “Bones” Beard whom he considered a brother.

He is survived by his children, Kimberly Jo Beard Tillman and her husband Andy of Crimora; a son Ricky D. Beard and fiancé Wilma Bradley of Fishersville. He also leaves behind special grandsons whom he adored, Zachary Tillman and Justin Key, a step-granddaughter, Cami Tillman and children.

He is also survived by his sister, Jane Beard Taylor and husband Charles; brother, Jerry Beard and wife Carolyn of Waynesboro; a former brother in law, Pete Baber and wife Betty of Waynesboro; sister in law, Betty Baber Farley of Maryland and Ethel Baber Shiflett and husband Cleveland of Crimora; and Anna Beard. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews from both the Beard and Baber families.

Jeter retired from Westinghouse after 35 years of service.

He was very involved in baseball and other sports. He and Charlotte traveled many miles to watch his son Ricky and then his grandsons Zach and Justin play ball.

Jeter never met a stranger and loved to talk. He was always willing to help anybody out of the goodness of his heart. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services will be held on Monday March 5, 2012 at 2 PM at Augusta Memorial Park with Pastor Jeff Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 pm.
