Charles Lawrence “Tick” Henkel, Sr., 90, of Waynesboro passed away peacefully Friday, March 24, 2017 at his residence.
Born February 25, 1927 in Stuarts Draft, he was the son of the late Homer Lee and Edith Izora (Mitchell) Henkel. On January 13, 1951 he married Ada J. (Bradley) Henkel in Elizabeth City, NC.
Charles was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Stuarts Draft. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served his country honorably during WWII. As a member of the Stuarts Draft VFW Post 9339, he was the last surviving charter member. Charles was employed by the former E.I. DuPont Company where he worked for 35 faithful years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis M. Henkel and Hazel H. Cohron; and six brothers, Lyle L., James Marion, Harry H., Homer Lee, Jr., William R. and Reginald G. Henkel.
In addition to his loving wife of 66 years, survivors include his two sons, Charles L. Henkel, Jr. (Kathryn) and Kevin D. Henkel (Bruce W. Bosselman) all of Waynesboro; granddaughter, Kristy Henkel Wetmore (Todd) of Goode, Va; grandson, Erik D. Henkel (Megan) of Forest, Va; step-granddaughter, Brooke E. Lemieux (Matthew) of Crozet, Va; step-grandson, Corey E. Bosselman of Charlottesville, Va; step-great grandson, Meade S. Lemieux of Crozet, Va; brother, Walton M. Henkel (Mary Katherine) of Stuarts Draft; brothers-in-law, Harry L. Bradley (Mary Ann) and family of Stuarts Draft, A.D. Bradley, Jr. and family of Disputanta, Va and Herbert E. Raish of Bridgewater, Va; as well as many nieces and nephews including a loving and devoted niece, Susan P. Bowman (Leon) and family of Harrisonburg.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 2179 Stuarts Draft Hwy, Stuarts Draft, with Rev. Charles Reynolds officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Stuarts Draft VFW Post #9339. All those who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St. Friends may call and visit at the residence at any time, 1001 White Oak Road, Waynesboro.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of Hospice of the Shenandoah with special thanks to Christina, Meagan, Carolyn, Mark and Mary Scott.
