Born August 27, 1952 in Albemarle County, VA, she was a daughter of the late Alfred B. and Joyce V. (Jones) Wood.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only son, Stephen Louis Johnson; and a sister who was her best friend, Virginia Ruth (Wood) Hall.
Doris’ memory is cherished by all who knew her. She was a devoted mother, sister, partner to Barry and friend to all. Due to her health issues, Doris spent her last few years at home with Barry. She loved talking on the phone with family and friends to keep up with all that was going on in their lives and sharing pictures. Doris was known for her love of cooking and baking; especially her delicious coconut cakes. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her constant thoughtfulness, love, support and her smile.
Doris is survived by her significant life partner, Barry Cook of Afton; sisters, Kathy Spencer (Ben) of Yorktown, Rosemary Marrs (Russell) of Afton, and Lisa Frazier (Montie) of Afton; a grandson, Dylan Johnson of Crozet; stepdaughter, Robyn Cook Brunk (Daryl) of Waynesboro; step-grandchildren, Amber and Sophia Brunk; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special friend and cousin, Brenda Watkins of Esmont and special friend, Tammy Wood of Waynesboro.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro with Pastor Robert Mansfield officiating.
