Charles and Susan, (and all family members),
So sorry to read about your mother; 95 years is amazing and I was around her and all of you for about 18 of those youth years.
The Gladwell family was very special to me and my Mom and Dad as we were growing up in Timberville and Broadway.
The church family at Rader's was a very special group and your parents and all of you were a large part of wonderful times and helping all of us stay safe at events, and always a great time.
I still remember being with you all at church youth gatherings and Christmas programs.  Your parents and my parents were a huge part of that great family feeling.  Your Dad always had time to speak to me at our home when he would be providing plumbing and heating services.  Both of your parents were very friendly and always made you feel at home, even when we would visit your family in your home.
One never forgets nice and respectful people; I would love to visit and see Charles and Susan sometime.  Sorry I could not attend any of the services for your wonderful mother as we were out of town visiting with our 3 grandchildren and our daughters.  The best to each one of you and special thoughts are with you at this time and hold on to those special memories.

I offer my condolences to the entire family as you remember Dot.
There are so many ways to describe the wonderful person that she was and the manner in which she lived her life but one way stands out for me.
When praying before meals, Dot would include lines from Psalm 145 ...the eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.
Thou openest thy hand, and satisfy the desire of every living thing. She concluded with "we pray our lives may show our gratitude".
Dot lived by grace with consideration and kindness to all. Her life did indeed show that gratitude. She was a blessing to all who knew her.
I feel fortunate to have been one of those people. I will retain fond memories of her.

She was the daughter of the late Vastine S., Sr. and Mabel (Almond) Arehart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Gladwell in 1987; three sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include her husband, V.J. Whitmer of the Bridgewater Retirement Home; daughters, Susan Gladwell of McGaheysville, Ann JaNell Gladwell of Moneta; son, Charles L. Gladwell and wife Juanita of Kentucky; brother, James “Jimmy” Arehart of Glen Allen; sister, Agatha “Gay” Meeks of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, John Whitmer, Jr., Chris Gladwell, Angela Mullikin, Charles Helms, Sydney Helms; three great-grandchildren, Cate Gladwell, Lauren Mullikin, Caleb Mullikin; two step-sons and their families; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
