Mrs. McCune was born on December 10, 1931 in Clifton Forge, VA, and was a daughter of the late Herman Wheeler Painter and Annette Gertrude (Thompson) Painter Houff. Freda was employed by the Augusta County School System and was a teacher for 29 years at Wilson Elementary prior to her retirement in 1993. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
In addition to her parents, Freda was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert (Bobby) Eugene McCune.
Freda is survived by a daughter, Letitia (Tish) McCune Lindsey, and her husband, Lafe of Ringgold, VA; sons, Robert Michael (Mike) McCune and wife, Ann of Fishersville, John David McCune and wife, Annie Ackerman McCune of North Brunswick, NJ; eight grandchildren, Whitney Lindsey Terry and husband, Scott, Hanna Lindsey Eanes and her husband, Barry, Lindsey McCune Huffman and husband Mark, Adam McCune and wife Brooke, Mark McCune and wife Shelby, Devon McCune, Braden McCune, and Alex McCune; seven great-grandchildren, Caroline Huffman, Ryder McCune, Reese McCune, Kerr Terry, Lorell Terry, Trip Eanes, and Bryant Eanes.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday June 21, 2022 at 10 am at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Jim Harris officiating.
There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home with the family present, however, friends may view and sign the register book on Monday afternoon June 20, 2022 from 3 until 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to St James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 320, St. James Road, Fishersville, VA, 22939; or to Fishersville United Methodist Church, P.O.
