James Vernon Lewis

James Vernon Lewis, 68, of Waynesboro, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Beckley, WV on December 8, 1951, a son of the late James W. and Mary Gladys (Ruth) Lewis. James proudly served in the United States National Guard. He worked as a supervisor for Albemarle County Schools. James was a member of Community Fellowship Church of the Nazarene. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Lewis. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Ann (Kelly) Lewis of Waynesboro; sons, Michael James Lewis and Catherine Humphries of Stuarts Draft, Kevin Mitchell Lewis and wife, Brooke of Waynesboro, and Shaun Duane Lewis and wife, Regina of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Emily, and Josh Lewis, Rose and Emma Lewis, and Gia, Kye, and Kaleb Lewis; siblings, William “Bill” Lewis and wife, Charlotte, Thomas “Tom” Lewis and wife, Lori, and Scherie Cook and husband, Randy all of WV; as well as extended family and friends. Following a private service, a graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Riverview Cemetery with Pastors Jim Corbin and Tim Harrison officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to please meet at the cemetery, wear a facial mask, and practice proper social distancing. Active pallbearers will be Jacob Lewis, Josh Lewis, Kye Lewis, Kaleb Lewis, Jeff Williams, and Jacob Cosgrove. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 6, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
