Jimmie was born in Virginia to Earl Sims and Oma (Lowe) Sims on August 4th, 1937. He was a true jack of all trades, working for the Waynesboro Community Hospital and Augusta Health for 52 years, doing maintenance, logistics, working in the mail room, and driving box trucks; finally “retiring” at the age of 82. Even after leaving the hospital, Jimmie continued to keep himself busy, doing yard work, fishing and taking rides in his truck. He was a man who could fix anything and who enjoyed an active life.
In addition to his parents, Jimmie is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Joann Sims, as well as six siblings.
Jimmie is survived by his daughter, Anne Roney of Waynesboro; his sons, Bobby Sims with wife Teresa of Staunton, and David Sims with wife Laura Craig-Sims of Waynesboro. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Erika Mansfield with husband Scooter and Alex Duarte; as well as his great-grandchildren, Esme Mansfield and Brixton Mansfield and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 10th at 2:00 PM at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Rick Diehl officiating.
Pallbearers will be Mike Hughes, Kevin Morrisett, David Jones, Paul Gochenour, Bobby Sims and David Sims.
