

He was born February 14, 1937 in Waynesboro, son of the late James Nelson and Josephine Young Kite.
Mr. Kite was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years and after retirement from the service, he worked for Augusta Lumber. He also was a volunteer at the Daily Living Center in Waynesboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John “David” Kite, II.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Virginia Mae Kirby Kite; three grandchildren, Savannah Kite, Rebecca Virginia Kite and Erica Kite; two brothers, James Franklin Kite and wife Myrtle of Fishersville and Jerry Nelson Kite and wife Gwen of Waynesboro; special niece, June Hailey and her daughters, Amanda McLaughlin and Denise Tanner.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Augusta Memorial Park with Pastor Merle Fisher officiating. American Legion Post 340 will conduct military rites at graveside.
There will no public visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 420 Neff Avenue, # 210, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
