He was born May 12, 1945 in New York a son of the late John Joseph, Sr. and Dorothy Bowman McNamara.
He retired as a lineman from Verizon and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Goodloe McNamara of Waynesboro, three sons; John Joseph McNamara lll, Thomas McNamara, Michael McNamara all of New York, Christopher McNamara of Nelson County, a daughter, Mary Beth McNamara of North Carolina, a brother, Robert McNamara of New York, two step-sons; Thomas Scott Goodloe of Richmond and Timothy Arthur Goodloe of Ft. Defiance.
Following cremation a memorial service will held at a later date.
