

Born July 3, 1937 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Paul Henry and Gracie (Pannell) Smith.
Mrs. Carter was a member of First Baptist Church, Waynesboro. She worked as plant manager secretary for Hollister until her retirement. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, watching the Washington Nationals and Redskins on TV and playing bingo with her friends at the nursing home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Ryan Sawyer; siblings, Randolph Smith, John Smith, Harry Smith and Barbara Blackwell.
Survivors include her two loving children, Scott Carter and wife, Lisa of Waynesboro and Sonya Crider and husband, Philip of Waynesboro; grandchildren, McKenna Grace Carter, Logan Bryce Carter, Will Spangler, III and Garrett Cane Spangler; siblings, Charlotte Harris of Waynesboro, Mildred Davis of Raleigh, N.C. and Clifford Smith of Smithville, VA; a number of special nieces and nephews; special friends, Debbie Henderson and Kitty Duff.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Barrett Owen officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to the nurses at Shenandoah Nursing Home, the second floor nurses at Augusta Health, Dr. Campbell and Dr. Baroco for their love and care of Julia.
