In 1951, Kay married Robert Pence, beginning a life filled with movement, growth, and devotion to family. Over the years, they relocated many times, while raising their six children, eventually settling in Chester, New Jersey, where they lived for 20 years. During that time, Kay built a vibrant and active life. She enjoyed jogging, tending to her garden, painting, and spending time at the YMCA. She later earned her Associate’s Degree in Art History from Morris County Community College in New Jersey, a reflection of her lifelong love of learning and the arts.
After her years in New Jersey, Kay moved to Florida with her mother, Kathleen Jones. She later married her second husband, John VanArsdale. Raised in the Lutheran faith, Kay carried her values of kindness, openness, and compassion throughout her life.
Kay was a voracious reader and a dedicated artist, always curious and creatively engaged with the world around her. She had a remarkable gift for connection and easily made friends wherever she went. Her warmth, intelligence, and creative spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Kay is survived by her six children: Rick Pence and his wife, Renay; Gayle Keaton; Greg Pence and his partner Anita Sowers; John Pence and his wife, Capriel; Amy Pearcy and her husband, Andy; and Kate Labbe and her husband, Ernie. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a deep source of pride and joy in her life.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 23rd at 10:00 am at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
The family of Kay wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Raymond Strickland for officiating the service.
