Kurt Douglas Massie

Mr. Massie was born on September 20, 1956 in Waynesboro, and was a son of the late Curtis Hayes and Hattie Virginia (Lyons) Massie. Doug served in the United States Marine Corps. He worked for Alcoa for more than 33 years prior to his retirement. Mr. Massie loved to hunt and fish, especially Fly Fishing. He was actively involved in Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, helping wounded and disabled veterans. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church. Doug loved spending time with his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mickey Kay (Wimer) Massie on December 31, 2020.

Mr. Massie is survived by a daughter, Brooke Massie-Brooks and husband Justin of Stanley; a son, Jeffrey Massie and fiancé Kim Slough of Staunton; step-daughter, Michelle Wilcher and husband Kelly of Churchville; sisters, Mary Jane Wimer and husband Denny of Waynesboro, June Blosser of Waynesboro, Diane Massie of Fishersville; a brother, Brother Chad Massie and wife Mandy of Grottoes; grandchildren, Braylon Brooks, Zachary Massie, Noah Massie, Jeffrey Massie, Jr., Tyler Wilcher, Nathan Wilcher, Ryan Wilcher; numerous nieces and nephews; and devoted special friends, Kim Padgett and Lee Smallwood.

The family will like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to the staff of the Hospice of the Shenandoah for all of their love and care during Doug’s declining health; and to Project Healing Waters for their devotion to him.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday February 26, 2022 at 11 AM at New Life Baptist Church, 691 Battlefield Road, New Hope, VA, with Pastor Corey Smallwood officiating. The service will be held in Church-Community Center.
