

Leonard Roland Robinett, Sr., 91, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at his home in Waynesboro, Virginia, where he resided since 1972, with his wife, Nell Wilson Robinett. Leonard and Nell were married in 1953 and were members of Staunton Grace Covenant Church, Staunton, Virginia.
Leonard was born on April 4, 1932 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was the son of the late Ira Roland Robinett and Bertha Crystal Cooke Robinett. His brother, John Berry Robinett, and his son, Michael Cary Robinett, preceded him in death.
Leonard graduated from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, and he graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina in 1958 with a degree in Divinity.
After his ordination, he served as Pastor in five different churches throughout Virginia. He also enjoyed working with radios, computer programming and repair, and shortwave radio communications. His shortwave radio call sign was K4NIC. He later worked for General Electric as a Software Engineer, while also pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors. One of his most notable ventures was co-founding Robinett Enterprises, a Great Clips hair salon franchise with fifteen locations in Virginia and North Carolina.
Leonard was a remarkable husband, father and friend. He loved God and served Him faithfully all of his life. He loved people and considered everyone as a friend. He will be remembered as always having a passion for learning, a positive attitude, positive words and a deep abiding faith in Christ. He regarded every circumstance of life, whether good or bad, as yet another opportunity to praise his Lord. His reception in heaven most certainly was a sweet one, and his reward in heaven will be great.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Nell Wilson Robinett, his daughter, Mary Kathleen Robinett Maryman (and her husband, Richard Joseph Maryman), his son Leonard Roland Robinett, Jr. (and his wife, Pamela Ford Robinett), his daughter Carol Robinett Nimmo (and her husband Dale Edward Nimmo), his son John David Carey Robinett, his daughter-in-law, Janet Marie Robinett, and by fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro, Virginia, led by Rev. Steve Paulus. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The 700 Club, Virginia Beach, Virginia and/or Staunton Grace Covenant Church, Staunton, Virginia.
