

Max was born in Sturgis, Michigan to the late Ross Allen and Esther Ferris Scheetz. He attended high school in Sturgis, Michigan. Max joined the United States Navy in 1952 and served until 1956. He was on the Allen M. Sumner USS Battleship during the Korean conflict. His tour of duty took him around the world and he crossed the equator earning the nickname “Shellback”. After the Navy he worked with DuPont in Kinston, NC as a Sr. Mechanical Engineer in Design. He retired after 32 years in 1992.
In 1997 Max and Suzanne moved to Waynesboro, VA and he became an active member at Main Street United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, VA. He enjoyed doing handyman work for his church, friends and family. He loved taking long rides and doing jigsaw puzzles.
In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by all his siblings, Elaine Scheetz Sarels, Howard Scheetz and Paul Scheetz.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Suzanne Shepherd Scheetz; three children, Donna Scheetz Diehl (Ed) of Winterville, NC, Shirley Scheetz Brown (Steve) of Shelby, NC, and Dale Allen Scheetz (Bernice) of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Max Diehl (Virginia), Daniel Diehl, Scott Brown, Samantha Brown Queen (Adam) and Michael Scheetz; great-grandchildren, Carah Diehl, Madilyn Diehl, Olivia Diehl, Teagan Diehl, Caleb Brown, Lincoln Queen and Faith Scheetz; stepchildren, William H. Rowland, Jr (Jennifer) of Raleigh, NC and Candace R. Pate (Neal) of Midlothian, VA; step-grandchildren, Sarah Rowland, Holly Rowland and David Pate (Shawna); step-great-grandchildren, Penny Rowland and Joey Rowland; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Main Street United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Waynesboro.
