Mike George Koutsounadis, 88, of Waynesboro, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Augusta Health. Mr. Koutsounadis was born on August 15, 1932 in Chios, Greece and was a son of the late George John and Kyriaki (Fotinos) Koutsounadis. After immigrating to the United States, Mike worked in several restaurants before opening his own. He owned and operated restaurants for more than 50 years. Mike was a member of the Kimisis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church in Brooklyn for many years and served as church caretaker. He later attended the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Charlottesville. Mr. Koutsounadis enjoyed tending to his garden and cooking. On November 19, 1966 he married the former Rose Ella Gochenour, who preceded him in death on December 20, 2006. Mr. Koutsounadis is survived by his children, Chuck Spraggins of Louisiana, George Koutsounadis and wife Traci of Louisiana, John Koutsounadis of Virginia, Kyriaki “Kitsa” Lee of Virginia; sisters, Maria Stoupakis and husband Charlie of New York, Vivi Haviaras and husband Stavros of New York; grandchildren, Amanda Spraggins, Sherri Spraggins, Conchetta Castillo, Charlie Spraggins, Kerri Sepulvado, Terri Spraggins, Emya Lee, Jayson Lee, Lee Frazier; great-grandchildren, Josh Spraggins, Khloe Castillo, Kaleb Woolridge, Mariya Woolridge, Eli Spraggins, Lacie Franks, Sutton Franks, Stetson Spraggins, Maddie Pearl Spraggins, Kaleigh Sepulvado, Michael Sepulvado; nieces and nephews, John N. Koutsounadis, Gus Stoupakis, John Stoupakis, Joann Mallas, George Stoupakis, Kay Georgopalis, and Theodoara Haviaras. In addition to his wife and parents, Mike was preceded in death by a brother, Nick Koutsounadis, and a nephew George N. Koutsounadis. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 12 Noon at Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren, 1177 Mt. Zion Road, Luray, VA 22835, with Father Panagiotis Hanley officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 100 Perry Dr., Charlottesville, VA 22902; or to the Kimisis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 224 18th St., Brooklyn, NY 11215.
