Nancy lived a life of service to God, her family, and her country. She trained as a nurse at Brockton Hospital, Brockton, MA, and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. When her country needed her, she joined the U.S. Navy, answering the call to duty with skill and determination.
As one of the first Navy nurses to report to South Vietnam in August of 1967, she was instrumental in establishing the Naval Station Hospital in DaNang. The hospital became one of the busiest combat casualty treatment facilities in the Vietnam War. Nancy’s military service extended to many diverse locations, including Florida, California, Hawaii, Kwajalein, Virginia, and Rhode Island.
While stationed in Rhode Island, she met her husband Charles D. Huff of Staunton, VA. After retiring from the Navy at the rank of commander, she returned with Charlie to his hometown of Staunton. They were married for 51 years, sharing a love of family, golf, and most of all, their strong Christian faith. Most recently, they attended Wayne Hills Baptist Church in Waynesboro, VA.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents James and Irene Sullivan; her sisters, Jeanne Kent, Lorraine Smith, Colleen McCann, and Margo Edwards; and her brother, Gary Sullivan. She leaves behind her sister Roberta Fox Whitmore, along with dozens of nieces and nephews.
