

Richard was born in Staunton to Antha G. Robertson and Richard E. Robertson on July 19th, 1942. He attended school at Wilson Memorial High School where he played football and ran track. After graduating high school, he went on to further his education on an academic Reader's Digest scholarship and football scholarship at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WV. In addition to football, he ran track at Davis & Elkins, was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity and earned a Civil Engineering degree. After college, Richard served in the Army Reserves for seven years while beginning his 35-year career with DuPont, retiring as a manager. While at Dupont, he earned his Six Sigma certification. Richard and his wife Kay enjoyed 59 years of marriage, filled with lots of laughter with family and friends. Richard was a devoted father who loved his children. He was always present in their lives, as a mentor, coach and most importantly as a father and friend. His love for his children carried over to his grandchildren, never missing any activities they participated in or an opportunity to express his pride in each of them. His steadfast love for his family was evident throughout his life. Richard was very active within Main Street United Methodist Church, where he was a member for 57 years and chaired several committees.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Robertson; and a great grandson, Baker.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Kay Robertson of Waynesboro; his son, Jeff Robertson of Crozet; his daughter, Tiffany Shifflett and husband Chris of Crozet; his grandchildren, Mary Robertson, Jordan Robertson, Alexis Gelozin and husband Geoff, Carter Shifflett, and Andrew Shifflett. He is also survived by his two great grandchildren.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, April 4th, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Morris Fleischer officiating.
